Historian/Archivist – Duties and Responsibilities

Historian is the major information resource relative to promoting Irish American history and the History of the AOH.  As such, he is tasked with using all opportunities and means to provide members with information that can be used to promote our heritage. 

His responsibility includes providing varied means for communicating the AOH. 

The Historian shall also maintain and up to date list (on the national web page) of all National Presidents, National Convention and well as JFK and MacBride awards winners.

ARTICLE X – HISTORIAN/ARCHIVIST, NATIONAL: Section 9. Shall:

A. Promote, supervise and direct proper recognition of the study of Irish History in Catholic Schools and colleges and other educational Institutions;
B. Prepare and distribute a bimonthly bulletin to each State, District, County and Division Historian; said bulletin shall also be published in each issue of the National Hibernian Digest;
C. Administer, and/or appoint a committee to administer, the Order’s participation in the annual National History Day competition, and to encourage State Historians to support National History Day;
D. Provide for the storage and organization of documents, records, and objects deemed to be, in the opinion of the Archivist, of historical value to the membership of the Order; and
E. Report to the National Convention and National Board Meetings.

Communicate with State Chairmen – State President if Chair unknown

  1. Speak to your state chairmen Annually
  2. Communicate to your state chairmen monthly via e-mal.
    1. Expand to your county and division chairmen as you move forward.

National Communications

  1. Hibernian Digest Responsibility

Submit a 300 to 600-word article to the Hibernians Digest prior to the established deadline for each and every Hibernian Digest published.

  1. Web Page Responsibility

Responsible for creating and approving all content on the AOH web-page as related to chairmanship.

Must provide a monthly update to the AOH webmaster. Weekly updates are encouraged.

Updates are a simple action picture and a paragraph.

  1. Email Blast Responsibility

Prepare articles for email blast as requested. Suggest articles for email blast as needed

Other

Additional duties as assigned by the national president.
